Meet the QuestGates Valuations team.

Management Team
Clive Bishop
MRICS
As UK Senior Surveyor for QuestGates, Clive is a Quantity Surveyor with 18 years in loss adjusting. He is experienced in all aspects of building losses, but particularly historic and listed buildings, buildings defects and subsidence. With extensive knowledge and experience of Major Loss claims, which he developed in major practise, Clive is a key player in our specialist team.

Clive has experience in valuing various types of building including those with listed status and / or historic interest.
Alistair Steward
FCII, FCILA, FUEDI-ELAE
A Director of QuestGates, Alistair joined in 2006 and has responsibility for business development along with the development of new products and services.

He has over 20 years insurance claims experience, the last 17 of these having been spent in the loss adjusting sector. Prior to joining QuestGates, Alistair held a number of senior operational management roles with Cunningham Lindsey UK, including Risk Solutions Director. During 2003 Alistair designed and launched Risk Solutions, the first risk management service provider operated by a loss adjusting company. As part of Risk Solutions he developed the first adjuster led insurance valuation service in the UK, attracting schemes with a number of insurers and brokers. The valuation service remained under his direction until he left Cunningham Lindsey UK to join QuestGates.

Alistair set up the new QuestGates Valuation Service in early 2007 and is directly responsible for its continued growth and development.
Buildings (Alphabetical order)
Steve Hunt
BSc, CEng, MICE, MIStructE
Steve has extensive experience as a consulting engineer, both in private practice and with loss adjusting, dealing with all types of engineering related claims, including subsidence. In 1991 he set up a traditional civil and structural engineering design practice and has been heavily involved with insurance claims ever since. In 2002 he formed PMC (NW) Ltd with Dave Porthouse to deal specifically with buildings related insurance claims. He is a director of QuestGates PMC.
Greg Laker
ACII, ACILA
Divisional Director. With over 15 years property adjusting and management experience, Greg was responsible for developing bespoke solutions for a number of our property clients, including the set up and management of our dedicated property focal point unit, which provides claims reception and quality control across all our key property accounts. A widely experienced adjuster, particularly in HNW, Greg is a major loss team leader, with unlimited handling authority on specialist household accounts.
Fergus Johnstone
ACII, FCILA, FUEDI-ELAE
Fergus has 30 years loss adjusting experience both in Northern Ireland and mainland UK. Former director of McLarens Toplis with very wide experience of property claims, including complex and major losses. During his 11 years in Northern Ireland, Fergus specialised in handling major terrorist explosion incidents. He also has a background of managing and troubleshooting on a number of high profile client accounts, both commercial and personal lines.
Simon Jones
LLB(Hons) ACILA
Simon joined QuestGates in 2008 with responsibility for the development of the company's Lloyd's and London market business. With nearly 15 years experience, he was operations director for Carmichaels, where he was responsible for several commercial and HNW accounts. Prior to that he worked for McLarens/Teceris, where his adjusting experience included exposure to complex and major losses, coupled with operational and account management.
Ross Macpherson
ACII, ACILA
Divisional Director. Having an insurance company background Ross entered loss adjusting 18 years ago. He has strong technical knowledge in both commercial and personal lines and is responsible for managing QuestGates Private Clients Division, which incorporates niche household accounts, including both HNW and major loss. Ross is also part of the team delivering compliance and technical best practise within our Property Division.
Hugh McLelland
BSc, FCILA, FUEDI-ELAE
Divisional Director. Hugh has over 25 years in adjusting, with wide practical experience of commercial and household property losses, including extensive major loss team leader involvement, and specialises in complex buildings issues. He has, for many years, dealt with high net worth losses in major Scottish houses and estates, and has carried out risk management surveys and valuations on behalf of Insurers. Hugh also has extensive experience of the restoration of historic listed buildings and their contents.
Nigel O’Keef
BSc (Hons), ACILA
Nigel has over 20 years adjusting experience gained with McLarens Toplis and Cunningham Lindsay.

He is a dual qualified adjuster / surveyor who joined QuestGates in December 2010.
Dave Porthouse
MRICS, MBEng, ACII, ACILA
A chartered quantity surveyor, Dave later joined a national loss adjusting company dealing with all types of building related insurance claims, qualifying as a loss adjuster too. He was a founder partner in Garsides Loss Adjusters, which was subsequently purchased by McLarens Toplis, and formed PMC (NW) Ltd with Steve Hunt. He is a director of QuestGates PMC.
Kevin Terry
MCIOB, MASI, MBEng, MaPS, MRICS, ACILA
Kevin has nearly 20 years loss adjusting experience and is qualified in many disciplines, including building surveying and engineering. His career includes major loss team involvement and secondment abroad as part of a catastrophe response team. Kevin has undertaken numerous valuations, ranging from motor trader premises to extensive holiday parks. With extensive experience in product development and client liaison, as well as hands on customer facing activity, Kevin is responsible for our subsidence and project management disciplines.
Fine Art and Antiques (Alphabetical order)
Mary Griffith-Thompson
ACII
Mary is a consultant who works on a number of specialist claims for QuestGates. Having trained as a Fine Art Auctioneer and Valuer, she spent over a decade as a Loss Adjuster specialising in Fine Art & Antique Claims for McLarens. Now, with over 20 years experience in the Antiques and Insurance sector, Mary deals with the entire range of claims, from the more modest 'antique' items and collectibles to losses of far greater value suffered by private owners, museums and dealers. In addition to the more usual items stolen or damaged, she specialises in claims involving unusual objects for which it proves difficult to obtain a professional valuation.
Engineering / IT (Alphabetical order)
Steve Abrahams
HND(Computer Science), DipCII
Specialising in GIT losses, Steve handles a wide variety of IT and engineering related claims. His background includes significant time spent at a large composite insurer where he was an account manager for losses from a major plant hire company before progressing on to a position as claims section manager. He has responsibility for consultancy services, providing assistance with the development of new policy wordings, training and risk surveys.
Neil Robbie
BSc(Hons), MBA, MIET
Neil has extensive experience as an engineering and IT loss adjuster. He gained his engineering experience at an international consulting engineering practice designing electrical and electronic systems for major worldwide construction projects and in the oil exploration industry. Neil specialises in providing risk assessment surveys on information technology risks, assessing back up procedures, firewall protection and 'e' risks.
