Gary Woodhall – MCS Divisional Director
Having joined the industry in 1989, working for a major insurer, Gary entered the investigative arena in 1993. With a career focused on motor claims, he initially worked as a Motor Claims Inspector before joining QuestGates from a position in Technical Management in 2004. He now oversees the Motor Claims Solutions division, which provides all Motor and associated services, such as Third Party Property Damage, Intel, Forensic Accountancy, Recoveries, Surveillance, etc., with focus on client relations and the development of both products and services.
Gary is an ardent Liverpool FC fan and enjoys playing a variety of sports with his two boys.
Joanne Birchall – MCS Operations Director (Cert CILA)
Joanne started her career at AGF back in 1990 and since then, she has worked for major Insurers, such as Direct Line and esure. She joined QuestGates in 2012, spending the majority of the time in Motor, albeit seconded to the Property division for two years to build on her overall knowledge. As well as her role in Motor, which most recently involved working around the OiC implementation, she has a real interest in staff welfare, arranging and overseeing the Mental Health First Aiders and additional Mental Health training for Line Managers.
Out of work, Jo enjoys going to the gym and walking her French Bulldog, Floyd.
Craig Oddy – Head of Motor Investigation
Commencing his career with an Insurer and working his way up to the position of Claims Inspector, operating directly for the Head Office team and specialising in complex risks, Craig moved into Motor investigations in 1998, handling high value personal injury claims. His career developed to encompass counter-fraud whilst continuing to work in the Motor and Casualty arena and he joined QuestGates in 2025 from Crawford & Co, to become Head of Motor Investigations.
Much of Craig’s social time is devoted to coaching at his local swimming club and competitive sailing.
Eve Mochan – Surveillance Manager
Eve has over 20 years’ experience within the Insurance industry, starting off in Life Insurance for Norwich Union, moving into personal lines underwriting and working for liquidators PwC during the run-off for Independent Insurance. She subsequently flourished within the theft and fraud investigation sectors at The Brownsword Group, managing intelligence research and surveillance for personal injury claims, which has now fully integrated into the Motor sector of QuestGates.
In her spare time, Eve ventures on narrowboat holidays with her family and enjoys the occasional glass of wine!
Gerry Curran – Credit Hire Manager
Gerry has 35 years’ insurance experience. He started his career with a major Motor Insurer and moved into investigations in 2001. Throughout and before joining QuestGates as part of The Brownsword Group acquisition in early 2025, Gerry has been integral in developing trace and recovery services, as well as introducing an award-winning Credit Hire Validation product to the market.
Outside of work, Gerry enjoys holidays with his family and attending as many Liverpool FC games as possible!

Accordingly, our Motor Audit service is designed to support both existing clients and those who simply require ‘ad hoc’ audits of their suppliers, to ensure they are getting best value and a service that meets their statutory obligations.
Claimant Profiling
With the capacity to be used in a variety of client situations, claimant profiling has quickly become one of our key offerings and has proven to be a significant resource. The service is available as both an extension of
our motor claims services or can be provided on a standalone basis.
Operated by our specialist Counter Fraud team who ensure compliance with all applicable laws, claimant profiling is used frequently by insurers to guide their claims settlement and reserving strategy and to cooperate the severity of alleged injury or loss.
